This reserve was gazetted in 1972 with an area of 9,445 hectars. This island in inhabitat by 45 species mammals such of binturong and pig-tailed macaque, 138 species of herpetofauna,48 freshwater fishes and 78 species of butterflies from 57 genera . The population of mousedeer is abundant especially at the southern part of the island.
